Lenovo Opens 2022 With Legion Y90 Gaming Phone: Genshin Tested

While countless smartphone manufacturers are set to make announcements during the first week of 2022, Lenovo is jumping the gun with their Legion Y90 gaming smartphone. Set for an unveiling on the first day of the year, this Y90 is the successor to the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel and Duel 2 smartphones.

Lenovo has not unveiled the official spec sheet as of now, but reports are starting to surface on alleged hardware details. According to a report by GSM Arena, the device will have an HDR-enabled 6.92-inch E4 AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling rate. If this is true, then extremely speedy touches can be expected, which can possibly give the edge in competitive gaming scenarios.

GizmoChina managed to find a Weibo post by Lenovo’s Senior Product Manager Lin Lin illustrating the gaming capabilities of the phone. He succinctly narrated his experience playing the hit game Genshin Impact, which is infamous for bringing even flagship devices to blazing temperatures over extended gaming sessions.

The image shows that the game was played at maximum settings over a 25-minute timeframe. After that duration, the Y90 still managed to maintain 60 FPS at a respectable 38.4 degrees Celsius, which is certainly lower than what can be said about other devices on the market. This feat could be thanks to its dual-engine air-cooled system, combatting the time-old issue of thermal throttling.

As of now, we’re still not sure if the Lenovo Legion Y90 will come shipped with a souped-up version of the current generation Snapdragon 888, or the next-gen 2022 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. We’ll just have to wait a few more days to get the official details from Lenovo themselves.
