Magic: The Gathering announces Final Fantasy Series

Wizards of the Coast, the company behind trading card game Magic: The Gathering, has announced some of the cards from the upcoming set Magic:The Gathering—Final Fantasy from the Universes Beyond series, which is scheduled for release on June 13.

Special celebratory events will be held for players in Singapore, Thailand and Philippines on two weekends (June 14 and June 15 for Singapore and Thailand, June 21 and 22 for Philippines). New players can try Learn-to-Play sessions to experience the world of Magic, while seasoned players can enjoy sessions including sealed and commander events. From June 13 to July 24, players from selected SEA countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines) can participate in Chocobo Racing Events and stand to win AR pins, posters and exclusive metal tokens.

The Magic: The Gathering—Final Fantasy set features the largest collection of artwork from the Final Fantasy series ever seen in a single game. The artists of Magic have come together to vividly depict iconic moments from the Final Fantasy series, each in their own unique style. Additionally, familiar artwork from the Final Fantasy series will appear as memorable cards. There will be Borderless Final Fantasy Artist cards which art contributed by Toshiyuki Itahana and Toshitaka Matsuda.
In this card style, one card from the main set has been specially selected for each guest artist, and each artist has brought their unique style to these cards with original illustrations. The two cards newly revealed are Vivi Ornitier by Toshiyuki Itahana and Kain, Traitorous Dragoon by Toshitaka Matsuda. Both are must-see for fans, and they are special cards that you’ll want to display as artwork.
Two beloved characters from the Final Fantasy series have been illustrated on Magic cards: Choco, Seeker of Paradise, and Moogles’ Valor, showcasing Chocobos and Moogles who have been adored throughout the series.

 

The water-elemental summon Leviathan makes its debut as Summon: Leviathan in Magic history’s first-ever card type, “Saga Creature”. Its immense power is expected to wipe the board with a devastating tsunami.

Some of the most iconic and memorable scenes from the Final Fantasy series appear on the Final Fantasy Through the Ages Cards in Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy. This is a true “dream collaboration,” where players’ memories and their card game experience come together.

Wizards and its key partners will jointly host celebratory events in public malls in SingaporeThailand and Philippines. They will be held across two weekends in June, in conjunction with the set launch. In the Philippines, it will be held from June 21 to 22 at SM City North EDSA Annex, and there will be Standard/Modern play events and a Multiplayer Commander ULTIMA Special Casual event.

Chocobo Racing Events are Draft and Sealed events based on the Final Fantasy VII mini-game “Chocobo Racing”. Players will earn points that accumulate with each new event they participate in, bringing them closer to the rewards each time they play. Players can win an exclusive Chocobo Racing Event Series poster and Pinfinity AR pins when they play either Chocobo Racing Draft or Sealed events at participating Southeast Asia WPN stores. The events will be held from June 13 to July 24. In addition, players who play Chocobo Racing Sealed Events can also win exclusive metal tokens. Three card designs are available to be won.
