A meeting between Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno and American Billionaire Elon Musk is set to take place. The City of Manila is eyeing to improve its internet connection speed through Starlink, the internet service made possible via low-orbit satellites from Elon Musk.

Starlink satellites, from the SpaceX company owned by Elon Musk, are able to provide high-speed and low-latency broadband internet connections across the globe. Through a resolution passed by the city council, Mayor Isko Moreno has been authorized to negotiate with SpaceX or the acquisition of Starlink. According to Isko Moreno, these satellites will boost the city’s disaster preparedness and will come in handy during calamities.

“Kadalasan nasisira ay ang linya ng komunikasyon gaya ng nangyari sa Visayas and Mindanao na sinalanta ni Odette. Wala nang telepono, wala pang internet. So malaking tulong itong kay Elon Musk dahil may signal ito kahit may bagyo at lindol,” Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said.

In addition, the city mayor said it will be beneficial to Manila’s public school students. According to him, it will eliminate any “dead spots” as learners will not be experiencing slow or no signal at all. 

Lastly, he said this could be available nationwide should he win the presidency in the upcoming election.
