MediaTek Announces Dimensity 9200: First to Support WiFi 7, UFS 4.0

MediaTek is leading the way with the next-generation set of flagship processors with the launch of the Dimensity 9200. More than just a successor to the Dimensity 9000, the Dimensity 9200 brings several firsts as a 2023 flagship chip.

To start things off, its prime core is a Cortex-X3 that is clocked at 3.05Ghz–and the Dimensity 9200 is the first to use this new ARMv9-based core. Accompanying it are three Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.85Ghz and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.8Ghz. The Dimensity 9200 is made using TSMC’s second-generation 4nm (N4P) process.

The GPU is an all-new one, as the Dimensity 9200 uses an Immortalis-G715 that comes with hardware-based ray tracing. This means that you get features like Variable Rate Shading (VRS) for improved graphics, and ARM Fixed Rate Compression (AFRC) for reduced bandwidth usage. You also get support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage–though we have yet to see this storage type used in commercial phones.

When it comes to displays, the Dimensity 9200 supports two 5K displays at 60hz, WQHD at 144hz, and Full HD at 240hz. It’s also one of the first chips to support WiFi 7, and it comes with support for Bluetooth 5.3 and both sub-6Ghz and mmWave 5G.

Interestingly, its Imagiq 890 ISP will have native support for RGBW sensors, while its APU 690 AI processor promises 35% improvement for AI tasks.

MediaTek said that the first phones to use the Dimensity 9200 will launch by the end of 2022, which means a wider release by the first half of 2023.
