MMDA Bans Unvaccinated Individuals to Use Public Transportation As Cases Surge

According to MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos, all Metro Manila mayors have “agreed in principle” that unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals should remain in their homes now that Alert Level 3 is in place. Prohibition covers indoor and al fresco dining, hotels, and country clubs, although they are still allowed to go out for essential trips.

“Para kang nag-ECQ only for the unvaccinated… Ito ay temporary lamang, ito ay habang nasa Alert Level 3 tayo para maproteksyunan din ang walang bakuna,” he said in a media briefing.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said that additional restrictions will be enforced in the city beginning today, Monday.

With this new protocol,  establishments and public transportation will now require the presentation of vaccination cards and identification cards upon entry.

In addition, those going to work might be required to show a negative RT-PCR test every two weeks at their expense, which must be presented hand in hand with the vaccination card according to the MMDA.

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said the agency is still finalizing the list of new restrictions, not just for unvaccinated individuals regarding public transportation and establishments. They are already giving a heads up so local government units can prepare as early as now. He also added that other local governments are set to issue ordinances soon.
