Aside from Steam imposing a price hike to all games and services, Netflix is the next to implement a price hike, resulting in all of its plans to be more expensive.
In an email we received last May 1, we were informed that our Netflix Standard Plan will increase to Php 449/month starting June 1. That’s a Php 50 price hike from the current price of Php 399/month.
The price hike is steeper with Netflix Premium, which will have an updated price of Php 619/month—or a Php 70 price hike from the current Premium plan price of Php 549/month.
In both cases, the price hike is due to the implementation of a 12% VAT on all digital services.

Aside from Netflix and Steam, it will be a matter of time before other digital streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify to implement price hikes. Assuming it’s the same 12% VAT, we speculate that the new prices for Apple Music and Spotify will be Php 159 and Php 169 respectively.
The BIR imposed that all digital services should register for VAT by June 1, so expect other digital services to issue the same price hike advisory in the coming weeks.
