No More SIM Registration Extension – DICT

In case you don’t know, tomorrow, July 25 is the last day for you to register your SIM card, as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has announced that there will be no additional SIM registration extension.

The original SIM registration extension was given in lieu of Filipinos in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas registering their SIM cards. According to DICT data and DICT Secretary Ivan Uy, an additional 20.3 million users managed to register their SIM thanks to that extension.

DICT data shows that the number of registered SIM cards stood at 104,334,729 out of more than 168 million, as of July 19.

Base sa datos from some of the telcos, yung mga tinatawag na revenue generating SIM kumbaga itong mga SIM na nagbabayad ng postpaid, nasa 99% na sila. I think we’re already there. Yung iba either talagang pasaway or ginagamit for scams at hindi talaga sila magpaparehistro,” DICT Secretary Ivan Uy said.

SIMs that are not registered by tomorrow, July 25, will be deactivated on July 26 by their respective telcos, meaning users can longer send or receive texts, calls, use mobile data and possibly lose access to e-wallets.

Deactivated SIMs will have a small window for users to re-activate them, from July 26 to 30.

SIMs will be permanently deactivated by July 31 if they are not re-activated.
