Representatives of Smart, Globe, DITO, as well as the National Telecommunications Commission will meet tomorrow to explain  the barrage of text messages that many mobile users are experiencing right now.

Said spam messages are causing alarm as they are being sent with the user’s full name and details. In addition, these messages are trying to scam users through a suspicious link.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen expressed his concern on twitter, saying that this is a very dangerous scenario.

“Unsolicited or scam text messages on our phones already contain our names. This means that there is a data provider out there that has leaked or sold or been careless about our information. This makes all of us now vulnerable. Very dangerous,” Justice Leonen said.

NPC media officer Roren Chin said the body already held an initial investigation but cannot disclose their findings yet.

Although tomorrow’s meeting will be held behind closed doors, Chin said there will be a livestream where disgruntled mobile phone users can ask questions to the representatives of telco companies and NTC.
