A number of Smart Community Stores have been rolled out in 600 locations around Metro Manila for the telco to continue serving customers during the ECQ period. Smart Communications started this initiative to address both its customer’s needs particularly those in areas affected by COVID-19 restrictions as well as help its retailers keep their livelihood.

“It’s our commitment to ensure that Filipinos have access to our network and services during this time of need. If they cannot go to us, we will find a way to reach them in their communities” said Alex Caeg, senior vice president and head of consumer sales group at PLDT and Smart. These community stores provide increased customer touchpoints which are not limited to Metro Manila but also in Bulacan, Isabela, Cagayan, Tuguegarao, Quirino, Batangas, Cavite, and Mindoro.

Smart’s physical stores remain closed for the duration of ECQ in compliance with the government’s guidelines for mall retailers. In its place will be these community stores where customers can purchase Smart and TNT credits, Wi-Fi devices and also serve as the company’s retail partner where LTE smartphones can be bought and process PLDT Home Fiber applications.

John Palanca, Smart’s first vice president and regional head for Luzon consumer sales said “These rolling stores also help retailers keep their livelihood in this time of crisis.” They will also allow distributors in Laguna, Quezon, Marinduque, and Bicol to operate community stores.

For the public’s convenience, distributors have also shifted to digital platforms and delivery systems. Smart subscribers can still access their products and services online, in temporary booths in malls, convenience stores, as well as partner supermarkets.
