After making its 5G network go live last July in key cities in Metro Manila like Makati Central Business District (CBD), Bonifacio Global City CBD, Araneta City, SM Megamall, and Mall of Asia Bay Area, Smart continues its 5G network expansion, this time going beyond Metro Manila and Luzon. Recently, it has deployed 5G networks in key locations in Boracay, Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao.
Aside from expanding its 5G network, Smart has also made 5G accessible to prepaid subscribers, where they can easily avail of 5G-ready SIM cards. “Our initial Smart 5G rollout lays the foundation of our vision to turn the Philippines into a Smart 5G country that is at par with the world’s technologically-advanced nations,” PLDT CRO and Smart President and CEO Alfredo Panlilio said.
“Smart 5G fits into our narrative as a company that enables Filipinos to experience the Giga Life—that is, a digitally-empowered lifestyle with simple and easy access to all their passions,” Smart Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Wireless Business Jane Basas said.
Since 2016, Smart has been hard at work in deploying 5G in the country, starting with the first 5G base stations in Makati and Clark in 2018, the first 5G lifestyle hub in Araneta City and the first 5G campus in Ateneo de Manila University in 2019, and the first 5G eSports Hub in Eastwood and first 5G media center in Mandaluyong City this year.
