New processors from Qualcomm!
Qualcomm has just announced three new processors in their Snapdragon family: the 625, 435 and 425. Each new processor is aimed at a different part of the market, and all three sport Qualcomm’s latest advances in LTE technology from the chipmaker. Let’s check out what each has to offer:
The Snapdragon 625 is the best of the three new processors obviously, and is positioned as the successor to the company’s 617 SoC. Qualcomm says that the 625 has 35% lower power usage over the 617, and is quite faster too – the 625 uses eight 64-bit Cortex-A53 chipsets that can be clocked at around 2.0GHz. The new SoC has the company’s X9 LTE modem that sports peak upload speeds of up to 150Mbps. On the imaging side, the 625 is capable of 4K video capture, and can also work with dual-camera setups and can handle snappers up to 24-megapixels in the back in 13-megapixels in the front. An Adreno 506 GPU takes care of the graphics for the 625.
The Snapdragon 435 SoC is a step down, sporting a clock speed of 1.4GHz and sporting a 28nm octa-core 64-bit Cortex-A53 cores. The new processor uses Qualcom’s integrated X8 LTE modem, that can provide Cat.7 download speeds of up to 300Mbps thanks to the carrier aggregation tech of Qualcomm. The 435 can handle cameras of up to 21-megapixels, and is limited to full HD resolution only. The 435 sports an Adreno 505 GPU for graphics.
Finally, the Snapdragon 425 is positioned as the eventual replacement for the already aging Snapdragon 410 SoC. The 425 sports a quad-core, 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU paired with an Adreno 308 GPU. The 425 can only handle displays up to HD resolution, and cameras up to 16-megapixels. The 425 also sports Qualcomm’s X6 LTE modem that has their carrier agregation technology of the company, and can handle upload speeds of up to 75Mbps.
Expect phones bearing the new processors to arrive in the second half of 2016.
