Riot Games Files Lawsuit Against NetEase for Allegedly Copying Valorant

NetEase, developer of Hyper Front mobile game, was sued by Riot Games for allegedly copying “substantial parts” of Valorant.

Riot Games To Set Up Philippine Office

According to a report from Law360, Hyper Front has copied from Valorant the format of the game, as well as some parts of character designs, game maps, weapon designs, and a lot more.

Moreover, Riot claims that Hyper Front only began development after it revealed the Valorant “Project A” in October of 2019. Thereafter, NetEase launched a beta version of Hyper Front under the code name “Project M.”

Riot Games has already filed a case against NetEase before the high court of England and Wales but it is also launching complaints in Germany, Brazil and Singapore, according to Polygon

According to Riot, the release of Hyper Front in Singapore and other countries prompted complaints from users that it was essentially a “copy” of Valorant. Although NetEase has already applied some modifications to the game, the level of infringement is still far from negligible.

Hyper Front is currently available on Android and iOS stores, boasting more than one million downloads and 48,000+ reviews on Google Play. Like Valorant Hyper Front is a free-to-play first-person shooter that pits teams of five against each other in different modes.
