Samsung vs Apple is probably the most well-known rivalry in the tech industry. Next week, Samsung is launching the fifth generation of the brand’s smartwatches with WearOS to compete head-on yet again with the Apple Watch.
The 5th generation of the smartwatch will come in three variants: the Galaxy Watch5 in 40mm and 44mm, and Pro version in 45mm. The main advantage of having the Pro version will be its titanium body and long battery life.
Let’s first talk about the hardware. The 30mm and 44mm watches are 9.8 millimeters thick and weigh 28.7 and 33.5 grams respectively, while the 45mm pro version is 10.5 millimeters thick and weighs 46.5 grams.
Next is the display, the 40mm watch will have a 1.19-inch AMOLED display and will probably operate at 396 x 396 pixels. Meanwhile, the 44mm watch and the 45mm Pro version will have a higher display resolution at 1.36-inch AMOLED and 450 x 450-pixel resolution. Covering all watch variants is sapphire glass.
For battery life, both the 40mm and 44mm watches are equipped with a 410mAh battery that can last up to 50 hours. On the other hand, the Pro version has a 590mAh battery that can run up to 80 hours on a single charge. All variant models can be charged at up to 10 watts and are capable of wireless charging.
As for the system, all variants of the new model are operated by the Samsung Exynos W920 dual-core SoC, which is also used in previous Samsung watches. LTE-capable Samsung watch variants also come with eSIM support, GPS receiver, and NFC support.
The new Samsung watches also have a new BioActive Sensor on the back. This versatile sensor can detect various things like optical heart rate, electrical heart signal, bioelectrical impedance analysis, and skin temperature.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 40mm starts at Php 16,990 for the Bluetooth version and Php 19,990 for the LTE version, while the 44mm starts at Php 18,990 for the Bluetooth version and Php 21,990 for the LTE version. The Galaxy Watch5 Pro starts at Php 26,990 for the Bluetooth version and Php 29,990 for the LTE version.
