Things are looking good for Globe and Smart, as OpenSignal commended both local telcos as global rising stars in its 2022 Global Mobile Network Experience Awards.

Key findings in the OpenSignal report reveal that Globe is a Global Rising Star in five categories, which include posting the second-largest increase in 4G Availability in the Asia Pacific region between H2 2020 and H2 2021 at 6.6%. Smart, on the other hand, was commended as a global rising star in four categories and has the greatest improvement for Games Experience between H2 2020 and H2 2021 by a whopping 42.9%.

Both Smart and Globe showed improvements in Voice App experience. Smart improved by 19.4%, while Globe improved by 8.6%.

Aside from positive remarks for both Smart and Globe, OpenSignal also reported improvements in 5G connectivity in its 5G Impact on the Global Mobile Network Experience report. In its report, the download speed experience in the Philippines improved by more than double from 7Mbps in Q1 2019 (pre-5G rollout) to 15.1Mbps in Q4 2021. This also improves the country’s rankings–from 73 in 2019 to 67 in 2021.

These improvements on the country’s 5G connectivity also helped in improving speeds during peak hours from 3.7Mbps to 8.8Mbps

Multiplayer mobile gaming in the Philippines has improved significantly–from ranking 86th in 2020 to ranking 66th in 2021. This also corresponded to an increase in the country’s Game Experience score by 5.8% to reach a score of 41.2
