Things are looking to be good for the Philippines’ mobile internet: for March 2023, the country improved its rank by 1 place, and average mobile download speeds increased to 25.63Mbps–compared to 24.58Mbps in February. That’s a 1.05Mbps increase, which shows that telcos are working hard to improve the country’s mobile internet speeds. On a per telco breakdown, Smart remains to be the fastest mobile telco for the first quarter of 2023, with a median download speed of 33.39Mbps.
Compared to the competition, Smart has a commanding 11.1Mbps lead over Globe, which has a median download speed of 22.29Mbps. DITO, on the other hand, trails behind Globe at 18.63Mbps.
While Smart is the fastest mobile provider in 2023 so far as download speeds are concerned, Globe still remains on top when it comes to network consistency. To recap, this metric measures how consistently a mobile network can provide at least 5Mbps download speeds and 1Mbps upload speeds.
Looking through Ookla’s data, it’s a close battle between Smart and Globe when it comes to mobile network consistency, with Globe leading by 1.9% at 83.4% consistency. DITO still trails behind at 75.1% consistency but is the most improved among the three telcos when compared to Ookla’s Q4 2022 data.
If Smart is the fastest mobile network provider, Apple is the best phone brand for maximizing network speeds with a median download speed of 47.99Mbps. Compared to second placer Samsung, that’s a large 16.51Mbps lead for Apple, which is very evident with its iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones that boast a median download speed of 100.10 and 101.86Mbps respectively.
