While Smart remains as the best telco in the Philippines, Opensignal’s latest report reveals that Globe is catching up very well. In its its October 2022 report, Opensignal states that while Smart has the best 5G availability and reach, Globe offers better 5G upload speeds and 5G Video Experience.

The scores both Globe and Smart got for 5G video experiences places them in the Very Good (65-75) category, which means generally fast loading times and only occasional stalling. Howver, Opensignal notes that the experience might have been somewhat inconsistent across users and/or video providers/resolutions.

What’s also notable with the 5G video experience for both telcos is thart they were significantly higher compapred to the video experience when using 4G networks. This indicates that Smart and Globe’s continuous efforts with its 5G rollouts should help users have a more pleasurable video experience.

Smart is not as dominant as it used to be when it comes to 5G connectivity, as Globe was able to close the gap for 5G voice app and 5G games experience.

For 5G tests, Smart remains to be the leader when it comes to 5G download speeds, averaging 134.8Mbps. This is 17.3Mbps higher than Globe’s average 5G download speeds.

To date, Globe aims to build more than 1,700 new cell sites for 2022, while Smart said that its complement of 5G base transceiver stations rose to 7,300 in by the end of June 2022.
