Last year, we talked about Smart’s promos regarding unrestricted internet usage on any device. Now it seems like the UNLI DATA promo of choice has skyrocketed in price this 2023, alongside other goods and services. But with all things, there may be a catch that somehow justifies this jump. Unli Data promos have always been lucrative sellers when it comes to internet consumption. After all, the idea of uninterrupted browsing at breakneck speeds only once thought accessible via conventional monthly plans can now be done with just a smartphone. Not just that, but turn on your device’s hotspot function and now you have a home router for a fraction of the price.

There are a lot of stipulations and little asterisks that might fly by you if you aren’t paying attention though. For example, data limits are usually enforced by some sort of “Fair Use Policy,” or by a line like the “BEST FOR PERSONAL USE” as seen in last year’s advert. It also shows that video streaming will be limited to 720p quality which is the baseline for High Definition. It’s a compromise for some with flagship devices, but we’re sure there’s a demographic that’s more than happy with this resolution.

The first thing you’ll notice in this 2023 Unli Data promo is the price. It has jumped significantly to PHP 799, a considerable PHP 200 difference from last year’s iteration. It covers the same period of 30 days and also has mostly the same wording.

But what’s different is that this one comes with a specific timeframe, April 1 to May 31 2023; as well as the absence of other items. We don’t see any mention of video streaming limitations, nor are there any asterisks regarding data caps and policies. Sure, this may just be a marketing ploy to get people to read past the fine print, but it would definitely justify the price increase if all restrictions were to be deactivated for this amount.

With this in mind, this may be the upcoming business model for Unli Data plans in 2023. Globe offers something similar with its Go5G promos, but the unlimited portion only applies to 5G networks in supported areas. Once LTE is required to kick in, the limits are imposed once again. GOMO offers an UNLI DATA promotion as well at a cheaper price of PHP 599 with no cap, but speeds do slow down to 5Mbps at a certain point.
