It seems that Sony acknowledges the overwhelming success of Stellar Blade on Steam, as new reports reveal that it has removed the region lock on most of its games to countries like the Philippines where PlayStation Network (PSN) is not offered.
Aside from Stellar Blade, other notable Sony games now available for purchase on Steam in the Philippines include The Last of Us Part II, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Helldivers 2. This also comes at a great time, as Steam will be holding its next sale on June 26.
This is a big win for both the playerbase in the Philippines and for Sony, as they are making an effort to expand into the PC market by bringing some of its first-party PlayStation Studios console exclusive titles to Steam. Issues about Sony region locking its games started with Helldivers 2, where it forced players to make a PSN account to continue playing. Sony backpedaled on this requirement, but delisted the game and other titles until recently.
One thing that needs to be noted is that the region lock on Sony games in Steam is not entirely gone, as there are seven countries that remain to be blacklisted: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, and Vietnam. Russia isspeculated to be blacklisted due to the ongoing rift with Ukraine, while Vietnam banned Steam since 2024 over an issue regarding licensing games to be sold.
