Spotify is Now More Expensive Than Apple Music

You read that right: Spotify is going to be more expensive than Apple Music soon, and the streaming platform has yet to release its long-rumored HiFi tier.

In a recent advisory that it is sending to all its subscribers, Spotify will be increasing prices from Php 129/month to Php 149/month for individual plans and from Php 194/month to Php 239/month for family plans. The price hikes will go into effect on December 2023, so users still have a few months to enjoy the current plan prices. Spotify silently announced the price hikes last year for new users, so this new announcement is a reminder that the price hikes will go into effect even for current subscribers.

With these price hikes, Spotify is effectively more expensive than Apple Music. Spotify’s individual subscription is priced at Php 149/month, while the equivalent Apple Music subscription is priced at Php 139/month. For family plans, Spotify’s offering is priced at Php 239/month and can accommodate up to 5 users. Apple Music’s equivalent plan is priced at Php 219/month and can accommodate up to 6 users.

Despite Spotify being more expensive than Apple Music, both streaming platforms have their own advantages. Apple Music features lossless streaming at up to 24-bit/192khz (Spotify Premium caps off at AAC 320Kbps), while Spotify boasts of its playlist curation and other novel features like an AI-powered DJ feature.
