Change Your Password: 89M Steam Accounts Reportedly Compromised

If you have a Steam account, you’ll need to act quickly and change your password, as cybersecurity firm Underdark reports a data breach, where the account details of 89 million Steam users were reportedly compromised. In its post, Underdark said “a threat actor going by Machine1337 posted on a well-known dark web forum claiming to have breached Steam, offering a dataset of over 89 million user records for $5,000.”

While Underdark reported the Steam data breach last Sunday, it was when Mellow_Online1 picked up the story to let every be aware of it. A report by GameRant said that while Vale is investigating the matter, it assured Steam users that the leaked data is not associated with any Steam account information. Steam also added in its statement that the leaks of old text messages previously sent to Steam customers are “not a breach of Steam Systems”,

While Steam advised users that they don’t need to change their passwords and numbers, we urge all users change their password ASAP and enable two factor authentication for keep their accounts secure. It’s also important to vigilantly check their emails for any suspicions activities and for any phishing scams that’s related to Steam.
