We expect 2025 to double down on AI, and everyone is looking at different ways they can use it beyond the likes of ChatGPT. But what if AI is used to designed shoes? This is what start-up Syntilay is pushing for with shoes that are designed by AI.
Founded by serial entrepreneur Ben Weiss and backed by Reebok co-founder Joe Foster, these futuristic pair of footwear are 3D-printed and are designed by AI. That makes them more groundbreaking than what adidas has in store with its 4D sneakers that have 3D-printed midsoles. Their utilization of AI is clever: Weiss explained to Entrepreneur that their partner Zellerfield provides the app to scan your feet to give you the best fit using your phone’s camera. From there, it gets 3D printed and designed by AI before you obtain the final product that looks like a mix between Crocs and Yeezy Foam Runners.
As for the design, Weiss explained that they have a human designer do a sketch, then AI takes care of generating a 3D shape of the shoe. The AI also takes care of the patterns on the shoe, and Weiss claims that there are different design variations for every pair. While designing them is easy with help from AI, mass producing them is still challenging–which is why Syntilay is asking $150(~Php 8.7k) for its pair of AI designed shoes. They are currently offered in five different colors and in both mens and womens sizing.
Syntilay’s AI designed shoes may be expensive for what looks like a pair of slides, but this shows another potential of AI when utilized properly.
