The Google Pixel Fold Could Be Coming: Rumored Specs And Details

With the launch of the latest Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices, many have said that the company has finally hit its stride once again when it comes to smartphone releases. These big hits have already garnered positive reception by tech personalities, big or small – with some even touting these as the best devices of 2022. Google might just follow it up with the Pixel Fold, another possible hit to keep the ball rolling. Here’s what we know so far.

The Google Pixel Fold isn’t actually the first foldable rumored from the company. Back in 2021, there was allegedly already one in development, but we’re assuming it was halted to wait for the technology to mature. Other manufacturers such as OPPO have released their own versions since that time. It appears now that the company is back in it with production ongoing and a targeted launch before the year ends or Q1 2023 at the latest.

Design-wise, rumors point to an aesthetic very similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. This could mean more or less the same dimensions as the aforementioned device. We wouldn’t be too surprised with these details since Samsung seems to be one of, if not the only manufacturer to bring this form factor to the mainstream appeal.

Famous Weibo tech leaker Digital Chat Station also had the following to disclose about the rumored Google Pixel Fold: The foldable will be manufactured in China, responsible for the Pixel flagship and the folding screen among other products. They’re also a producer for Apple iPhones. A ceramic body is also expected, which is a very unique material seen also with the OPPO Find X5 Pro. Everyone is more or less expecting to find a derivation of the Tensor G2 chipset implanted inside the device, especially considering its passable performance in the latest Google flagships.

More recently, more rumors regarding the Google Pixel Fold and its display specifications have emerged. There is a high probability that it will come with Samsung-made displays, arguably the best in the market. The internal display will have a 1840×2208 resolution with a peak brightness of 1200 nits. That’s plenty bright for outdoor use. Externally, there is no brightness level yet but the resolution is within the 1080×2100 pixels range. Dimensions are currently pegged at 123mm x 148mm. It could also go up to a 120Hz variable refresh rate, with battery efficiency as a priority.

A triple-rear camera setup is expected at the rear. Gone are the days wherein foldables get a free pass from camera performance due to their novelty. The primary sensor is allegedly the Sony IMX787, a stellar sensor still not found on many devices nowadays. It will reportedly be backed up by an IMX386 ultrawide lens and a Samsung S5K3J1 telephoto lens. The inner display could sport an IMX355 sensor, while the outer display will get an S5K3J1 telephoto selfie.

Pricing also hasn’t been discussed but we’re assuming that the company plans to undercut its competitors with the Google Pixel Fold. If so, then we can realistically expect it to retail around $1000-1250 USD, which is a price many wouldn’t mind paying for this foldable. Any lower and it just becomes irresistible but might also become a bad financial decision for the company.
