The Nokia G42 is a Repairable 5G Budget Phone

After unveiling the G22 at MWC 2023 as a phone that’s geared toward repairability and sustainability, HMD Global expands that concept with the Nokia G42 as its first 5G phone to have repairability in mind. Like with the G22, HMD Global partnered with iFixit for repair guides and OEM parts to the Nokia G42, where it will provide support for five years.

As a budget 5G phone, the Nokia G42 uses a Snapdragon 480+ processor that’s paired with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Its back panel is made from recycled plastic, and its triple rear camera setup consists of a 50-megapixel main camera and two 2-megapixel cameras.

For the display, the G42 gets a 6.56-inch HD+ IPS display with a 90hz refresh rate, a notch for the 8-megapixel selfie shooter, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Keeping the lights on is a 5000mAh battery that supports 20w charging, along with a promise of two major Android updates and 3 years of monthly security updates. Other features of the G42 include an IP52 certification, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a headphone jack.

The Nokia G42 is priced at 249 Euros(~Php 15.1k), while the price of its repairable components are as follows: 50 Euros(~Php 3.1k) for the display, 25 Euros(~Php 1.6k) for the battery, and 20 Euros(~Php 1.3k) for the charging port.
