The Oppo Find N Lives Through Durability Tests

Our team spent some time with the Oppo Find N foldable smartphone in December of last year, and we found the phone to be remarkably polished for a first attempt. It packs a Snapdragon 888 processor which muscles its way through most tasks, and its minute form factor allows it to fit in your pocket. You aren’t sacrificing much by switching to this niche product. However, YouTube tech tester JerryRigEverything made the device undergo his iconic stress tests to see if this pretty $1500 phone can truly take a place in your daily practical rotation for everyday use.

To be honest, the lack of an IP certification is one of the phone’s sour points. However, that doesn’t automatically mean the phone is extremely fragile. This test was performed to prove that point.

The reviewer started off by removing the plastic screen protector that comes with the phone, leaving the advanced Gorilla Glass Victus to fend for itself. At around Levels 6 and 7, scratches began to imprint themselves onto the outer screen.

The inner screen which can only be seen when unfolded were much less durable, taking on noticeable damage at Levels 2 and 3. It can be inferred that the outside screen was made to be much beefier due to keys and coins it may come in contact with while folded in your pocket or bag. The camera lens glass covers also survived a beating.

The sides of the phones are built out of metal, protecting the foldable’s complex hinges. The paint was quick to show damage, but keep in mind that a cutter was used with considerable force that is unlikely to occur in accidental use. Also, all of the damage was purely aesthetic.

One of the last tests was pouring sand and other small rocks over the phone, in order to check if any of these could jam the hinge. Despite the debris, the hinge still opened and closed with ease.

The Oppo Find N passes the JerryRigEverything Test with flying colors.
