The Philippines Is A Terrible Place For Mobile Video

We’re dead last in OpenSignal’s latest study

OpenSignal has officially published their first State of Mobile Video report and the results are downright abysmal for the Philippines. The report is the first of a new series of quarterly reports which analyzes users’ mobile video experience across 69 countries, which include the Philippines. Video is fast becoming the main driver for mobile data, and the company analyzed around 8 million test devices during the May 14 to Aug 11 sample period in 69 countries.

When it comes to watching video on mobile, people living in European countries have it the best, with the best video experience was had in the Czech Republic. And despite what people think, having the best and fastest mobile internet doesn’t necessarily translate to the best video experience – if it did, South Korea would be in the No. 1 spot and not in 16th place.

As for the Philippines, well, we come in dead last out of the 69 countries that were included in the study, below India, Iran, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Ecuador, with an overall score of 34.98. It’s an absolutely pitiful state of affairs considering one of the countries that’s included in the report is going through a literal civil war.
