TikTok Copies Instagram with New Photo Mode Feature

TikTok Copies Instagram with New Photo Mode Feature

We recently reported how Instagram copied TikTok by introducing full-screen videos that mimic the TikTok feed. Now, it seems that TikTok is the one imitating Instagram through its new feature called “Photo Mode”.

The new TikTok feature allows users to share multiple still photos on the social media platform with a 2,200 maximum allowable character. Sounds familiar? Yep, exactly what Instagram is all about.

As Tiktok still is a video platform, the Photo Mode feature also allows creators to insert music into their posts. According to the creators of the app, they hope that this new feature along with the extended allowable character count will allow users to be able to “express themselves and more deeply connect with others.”

While the new feature has good intentions, it seems that all social media platforms are now starting to look the same – interface and content-wise. Mashable even reported that creators are now starting to recycle posted content previously shared on Instagram to Tiktok.

Instagram recently reported that they have been struggling with engagements. On top of this, The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Tiktok is way ahead of Instagram reels when it comes to users’ daily watch time. So, will this new Tiktok feature push down Instagram’s relevance to the social media world even more?

With social media platforms shamelessly imitating each other, it is only a matter of time before they would start to all look exactly the same. In the previous six weeks alone, Tiktok and Snapchat have already imitated French upstart app BeReal, Twitter added a Tiktok full-screen video feature imitating Tiktok, and Tiktok clone YouTube Shorts added a Tiktok-style voiceover feature.
