TikTok wants to take the crown of YouTube in terms of time spent by users. To do so, TikTok has extended its video duration from 3 minutes to 10 minutes.

Starting February 28, users have been allowed to upload videos up to 10 minutes long—more than 3x longer than the previous 3-minute limit and 10 times longer than the original 1-minute limit.

“Today we are happy to start rolling out the ability to upload videos up to 10 minutes long,” TikTok said in response to an AFP inquiry.

“We hope this will further stimulate the creativity of our creators around the world,” it further added.

According to Insider Intelligence analyst Jasmine Enberg, Youtube is still ahead in terms of time spent by users but Youtube is greatly affected by TikTok. The gap between the two video platforms is narrowing and extending TikTok video duration might just help the company catch up in terms of “both eyeballs and engagement.”

Recently, Meta introduced short videos on Facebook to compete with TikTok. The new feature is called Facebook Reels. Pretty much like TikTok, it allows users to create short videos. However, Meta has included monetization options for creators so they can make money out of their videos.
