As it continues to lose users, Tinder is going the same route as every other tech company out there by utilizing AI for matching dates. To make things clear, the AI features aims to give Tinder users an alternative to the “swipe”—a method that defined the dating app through the years.
“We want to see a significant number of people engage with that feature and give it a try … We also want to see improvement in quality matches,”Match Group CFP Gary Swidler told investor during the Q4 earnings call. Match Group is the current owner of Tinder.
It’s not just matching potential dates where Tinder plans to utilize AI: it also will use it to help users pick the best photos for their dating profile—a feature that Tinder launched last year as AI Photo Finder.
Considering that Tinder is known for “swiping”, single have grown tired of online dating, citing safety and privacy concerns, bad behavior from other users, and more. Tinder’s monthly active users (MAU) has been on a decline at 10% year over year—and that’s what Swidler wants to address.
“I’d love to see us get back to growth, but I think we have to take the baby steps first. We’ve got to roll out these product initiatives, see them drive improved user trends,” Swidler adds.
