After holding Unbox Con last June 18, this was followed up by Unbox Fest 2022, which was held last November 12-13 at SMX Convention Center. Being bigger than Unbox Con, Unbox Fest 2022 has more events to boot, which include a two-day cosplay competition and a live band performance from iconic OPM band Sandwich.
Like Unbox Con, Unbox Fest 2022 had hundreds of booths that offer collectibles like shoes, apparel, toys, and cards. There were exclusive drops as well from local brands like DBTK and SNK ATK, along with exclusive toys from artists like Wetworks.
Being a two-day event, a cosplay competition was held on both dates, with day 1 following the superhero theme and day two following the anime theme. The winner of the former brought home Php 10,000, while the latter brought home Php 15,000. Both grand winners also brought home an Instax camera.
Aside from the cosplay contests, day also had a fit contest, where participants showcased their best drip–regardless if what they’re rocking are hypebeast worthy or not. The winner went home with an Instax camera.
Aside from a series of art toys with artists from Southeast Asia and a toy auction (where the auctioned pieces reached final bids of above Php 100,000), one of the highlights of Unbox Fest 2022 was the fireside chat with Nas Daily founder and CEO Nuseir Yassin, where he shared insights about content creation and how he determines what is the next trend for content.
To close off the two-day-long event, iconic OPM rock band Sandwich performed a few songs to the crowd, which include popular songs 2 Trick Pony, Betamax, and Sugod. To make things even more exciting, Sandwich even performed No Goodbyes from their latest EP of the same name.
