Unbox Picks for IFA 2017 Best in Show

Unbox Picks for IFA 2017 Best in Show

John is in Berlin, Germany, to cover the biggest technology show in Europe, IFA 2017. We’ve seen a lot of new gadgets come out from the show from smartphones, smart speakers, drones, and cameras. For this post we’ve asked everyone in the Unbox Team to pick one single gadget that they believe is the best IFA release.

Jamie: It’s the LG V30.

Without a doubt, the LG V30

LG started the year off right with the LG G6, it was one of the first phones out of the gate to introduce us to an 18:9 display and it is feature-packed; more importantly, the Korean company ditched the idea of modularity and concentrated on the essentials. With the release of the LG V30, they’ve fine tuned their more streamlined philosophy and have included a ton of new features without being gimmicky. They also finally got their hands on a Snapdragon 835 processor and improved on one of the strongest features of the G6 by giving their Full Vision Display an OLED panel.

Seeing as I am in charge of most of the video content you see on Unbox, I’m also very happy that they’ve included a ton of option to take your mobile videography game up a notch and can’t wait to get my hands on the LG V30 when it gets to the Philippines.

Carlo: Lenovo Mirage is the Future of Mobile Gaming and Entertainment

This is how mobile entertainment will be

While this isn’t getting a lot of buzz, the Lenovo-Star Wars partnership is a glimpse into how mobile gaming and entertainment will be in the future. As AR/VR gear prices go down, strong IP brands like Star Wars can take advantage by bringing to life gaming experiences beyond consoles and smartphones. It’s just a matter of time before we see Marvel, Pixar, Walt Disney, and other strong properties do the same.

Duey: Bang & Olufsen’s BeoVision Eclipse is the Sexiest TV Today.

While I love gadgets and technological innovations, I am a sucker for good aesthetics with products. For me, gadgets nowadays look practically the same, save for Bang and Olufsen’s BeoVision Eclipse 4K OLED television. It may look like a normal TV for some (it is made in partnership with LG), but given B&O’s minimalist design with its products, the BeoVision Eclipse is one sexy TV.

Two key elements stand out with this TV: First is its shiny, rectangular aluminum soundbar (that is fully customizable with a variety of colors and fabrics to choose from) that boasts of 3 speakers producing a total of 450 watts of acoustic bliss. Second would be the floor stand that is motorized. Yes, The BeoVision Eclipse actually moves! With a touch of a button from its equally gorgeous remote, you can adjust the TV to the best possible angle from your couch. And yes, even the wall bracket is motorized as well, making the BeoVision Eclipse the ultimate “NetFlix and Chill” TV.

While the price on this is insanely expensive, as the 55-inch model will cost $10,990 (~Php563k), and the 65-inch model will cost $15,990 (~Php819k), I’d treat myself to this glorious piece of modern art…but I have to figure out how to save up for one.

John: ACER’s Predator Orion 9000

I’m a PC gamer at heart. I’m one of those salty OG dudes that started gaming on the PC when games still came on multiple floppy disks and when a color monitor meant gaming on a green display. So it’s not surprising that ACER’s Predator Orion 9000 spoke to my PC gaming roots at a base level, thanks to the crazy stuff ACER packed into it.

The Predator Orion 9000 is packed to the brim with all the latest hardware, which includes Intel’s enthusiast-grade Core i9 processors and a choice of either SLI’d NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti’s or four AMD Vegas. The chassis has been intelligently designed too, and makes for an awesome centerpiece of whatever battle station you’ve been looking to build.

It’s just too bad it’ll cost a ton of cash when ACER ships it to the Philippines, but then again I’ll probably get to use it for a few days when I finally review it later this year, so it’s not all bad.
