UV Express Group Wants To Double Fares

It’s because of the expected higher price in fuel

Yet another transport group is looking to raise their fares because of the higher fuel prices brought on by the current administration’s tax reform program.

UV Express group Code-X filed a petition with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) that essentially doubles the fare that they charge per kilometer, from Php 2 to 4.

That means passengers travelling from Dasmariñas, Cavite province, going to SM Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City, for example, would be charged P120 from the current P60.

The drastic increase is said to compensate for the expected rise of fuel in the wake of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act, as well as the price of spare parts and terminal fees that will also be affected. The group’s president, Rosalino Marable notes that this is the first time they’ve ever asked for a fare adjustment in a decade.

Other transport groups have already filed their own fare hike petitions with the LTFRB.

The LTFRB on the other hand, has earlier stated that any decision on fare hikes will come no earlier than March as they try to determine the actual impact of the TRAIN law on drivers and operators of PUVs.
