Valorant Is Coming To Mobile

Riot’s insanely popular FPS, Valorant, is coming to mobile platforms. This was announced by the company as a special surprise during the game’s one-year anniversary celebrations last Wednesday.

While scant details of the phone version were announced during the celebration, Polygon managed to wring out a few details from Valorant executive producer Anna Donlon about the new project.

For one thing, the mobile version of Valorant won’t exactly be like the experience you get on PC, though that doesn’t mean the experience will be diluted or compromised for the sake of porting the game to phones.

“We didn’t start out with ‘We’re making Valorant on mobile,’ we started out with ‘Can we make Valorant on mobile?’ with a lot of skepticism,” Donlon said. “For us, whatever you get out of playing on PC, you should get out of playing Valorant on mobile. But we have to recognize that the mobile player need is different.”

And despite Riot making a phone version of the game, Donlon stressed that their focus on mobile won’t affect the PC experience, nor will there be crossplay enabled for phones and PC and vice-versa.

“The same way that we’re not going to deliver a subpar mobile experience for mobile players, we’re not going to compromise the PC experience either,” she said. “We’re not trying to convert Valorant PC players into Valorant Mobile players or vice versa. […] We’re absolutely just as committed to keeping the PC experience at the quality level it is or higher, and we’re not going to compromise it in order to address the mobile market,” she said.

Unfortunately, there are no hard release dates for when Valorant will arrive on phones, with Donlon saying “hopefully that’s something we’ll be able to see in year two.”
