vivo Unveils V3 Chip with 6nm Process, 4K Cinema Portrait

vivo recently unveiled in its 2023 Imaging Conference its new V3 ISP chip, which is now based on a 6nm process, along with a new periscope lens with Zeiss’ “Vario-APO-Sonar” standards.

Succeeding the V2 ISP chip used on the X90 series, the V3 is made using a 6nm process, which should bring in 30% better energy efficiency, along with a new multi-concurrent AI perception-ISP architecture and the second-generation Frame Info Tunneling (FIT) interconnection system for better overall performance.

With the V3 chip, you get features like 4K movie portrait mode and improved integration with the phone’s SoC for reduced processing time by as much as 20%. Other notable features that the V3 is capable of include post-shooting editing and the ability to adjust blur and focus positions to achieve a cinematic effect in videos.

Aside from the V3 chip, vivo also revealed more details about its collaboration with Zeiss, where it revealed that it is working on a new periscope lens that uses the latter’s “Vario-APO-Sonnar” standards, along with a new version of the T* coating and Multi-ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) that reduces reflectivity by 50% on the main camera of the next X-series model.

“We aim to deliver the user experience of recreating what the human eye can see and make professional-grade imaging capabilities more accessible for everyone. In the future, vivo will stay committed to creating the best imaging technology and help users record life’s most precious moments,” vivo Imaging Vice President Yu Meng said.
