What You Missed at Unbox Con 2022

Unbox Con 2022 recently concluded its first event last weekend, and we tell you: it was a blast! What makes the event great is that beyond being a large place for buying and selling anything collectible, Unbox Con offered a number of programs and special booths to highlight everyone’s hobbies and passions–all while being able to network and meet new people for potential business opportunities.

Here are the highlights of Unbox Con 2022:

The Fireside chats. Aside from us getting to know Bigboy Cheng’s humble beginnings before reaching his status now, another highlight was a chat with US-based sneaker YouTuber Heskicks, where we shared various things about the sneaker culture–be it his take on unauthorized sneakers and why he passed up an opportunity to work for Nike.

Being the guest of honor at Unbox Con, Heskicks even participated at a box break for basketball cards. Even if he is more into sneakers, he was just as curious at how box breaks actually work.

Toy auctions and toy exclusives. Aside from Heskicks, Singapore-based toy artist Wetworks was also at Unbox Con to showcase a few exclusive toys. One of the highlights was a 2-feet tall version of his Shinigami: The Awakening art toy, of which was auctioned off for Php 400,000!

Aside from the toy action, there were a number of exclusive merch sold during the even, which includes a special MKIII Enemy hoodie from SNK ATK and several event-exclusive shirts from DBTK.

Sneakers galore! Unbox Con is not complete without the plethora of sneakers that were sold at the event. What’s nice about the ones we saw is that there’s a variety with what was available: ranging from the new (and controversial) Adilette 22 slides, to a couple of unique Air Jordans that were not released locally.

A few fun interactive booths. Aside from various collectible items being sold, there were a few interactive booths at Unbox Con. These include ASUS’ booth, where attendees get to try out their latest laptops, Crep Protect’s booth, where you can have your precious sneakers cleaned up for free, and a crowd-gathering booth from Ox Street, where everyone was debating which sneaker between the two is the real deal.

Personalities having their own booths. Some of the booths at Unbox Con were manned by personalities! These include Bigboy Cheng’s Secret Fresh booth, Jed Madela’s own booth for his art toys, sneaker YouTuber Paolo Tomenes’ booth, and a booth from sneaker Facebook page/community It’s Sole Good.

That rounds up the highlights of Unbox Con 2022! Are you excited for the next one? For the meantime, check out this recap video from our friends at This is Hype:
