WIKO, a French smartphone brand, is expanding its smartphone offerings in the Philippines with the WIKO 10. Equipped with a stylish design, large display, and capable camera, it is set to spice things up in the prevailing budget phone segment. As the saying goes, “battre le fer pendant qu’il est chaud” or strike while the iron is hot. Does WIKO have a winner in the under Php 10k segment in the Philippines?
Just like how I would describe French art, the WIKO 10’s design is stylish and logical. French artists have a hobby of formulating a theory before beginning to paint–this is also evident in the overall design of the phone.
Our review unit comes in a Klein Blue color with a matte finish. Together with the round corners and round edges, the WIKO 10 feels nice and ergonomic in hand despite its size. The labels are neatly placed on the back panel without causing any eyesores. The same can be said with the camera module as the lenses are properly arranged. The overall design could have been faultless if it weren’t for the rather thick bezels on the display.
For the button and port layout, the volume rocker and power button (which doubles as a fingerprint scanner) are on the right side, while the SIM card tray is on the left side; and a loudspeaker, a USB-C port, and a headphone jack at the bottom.
The WIKO 10 comes with a large 6.74-inch display that has an HD+ resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and a notch for the selfie snapper. The screen measurement alone is enough to tell you that the display is relatively large for its price segment.
While you are only getting an IPS panel–some brands do use an AMOLED panel at the under Php 10k segment–there is nothing to complain about with the WIKO 10’s display as the images don’t lack vibrance, crispiness, and brightness.
Having said that, users will enjoy surfing the web, watching videos, or playing games with this phone; although some might not like the fact that it only comes with a single bottom-firing speaker as brands are slowly starting to add stereo speakers even in budget phones. Thankfully, it comes with a headphone jack so plugging in your wired cans isn’t a problem.
The WIKO 10 has a triple camera setup at the rear that is led by 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN1 main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. This sensor is slowly becoming a popular choice among budget smartphones, and we can’t blame them: it offers good performance when it comes to general shooting conditions.
The main camera also features a pixel isolation technology that allows for more light captured with every pixel, making photos brighter and more colorful. As for the selfie camera, it comes with an 8-megapixel sensor that is just enough for typical use.
The only thing that feels underwhelming are the two cameras that accompany the WIKO 10’s main camera, as they are mostly filler sensors. We wish for something useful like an ultra-wide-angle camera for added versatility.
Internals and Battery Life
Inside the WIKO 10 is a Helio G37 processor that is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. While they might not sound impressive, they are more than enough for day-to-day use, especially for tasks such as social media browsing, internet surfing, and multimedia playing. The processor is designed for general use so don’t expect hardware-demanding games and apps to run smoothly.
Moreover, the phone runs on Android 12 and provides a smooth user experience thanks to its near-stock and bloatware-free build. Also, WIKO has redesigned the Android 12 setting layout into an aesthetically pleasing and youthful design that matches the phone’s exterior design.
At par with most budget smartphones, the WIKO 10 comes with a 5000mAh battery and gets a slight advantage over the competition with its support for 22.5w USB-C charging.
Wrap-up and Conclusions
The performance of WIKO 10 leaves a lot to be desired because of its processor of choice but does make up for it with decent camera performance and its large display. Aside from that, there is no doubt that is a well-designed smartphone, as its refreshing and stylish design is unmistakably French and perfect for Generation Z.
