Yield Guild Games (YGG) Philippines Country Head Mench Dizon achieved a personal achievement, as she’s officially the first Filipina to complete both the World Marathon Challenge and the World Marathon Majors.
The World Marathon Challenge is one of the most grueling, as it involves seven marathons on seven continents for seven days. Seven marathons. For this challenge, Dizon ran through Antarctica, Cape Town, Perth, Dubai, Madrid, Fortaleza, and finally Miami. Jet lag alone sounds like a nightmare, but she powered through. Crazy weather? Minimal sleep? She laughed in the face of adversity (probably). She crossed that finish line in Miami on February 6, and honestly, we’re exhausted just thinking about it.
Before this, Dizon completed the Abbott World Marathon Majors Six-Star Medal back in 2017. This marathon covers Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City.
These accolades make Dizon the first Filipina to pull it off, and the second Filipino overall (Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III did it first in 2020). Filipino-American Julie Uychiat also achieved this, making her the first Fil-Am Filipina to join this exclusive club.
Beyond personal achievements, Dizon is using her insane endurance to raise Php 7 million for a new digital education center at the Sisters of Mary School. They’re helping almost 8,000 underprivileged students, and she wants to equip them with skills in blockchain, AI, robotics – all that good future-proof stuff.
As the Country Head of YGG Philippines, Dizon believes digital skills are the ticket to Filipinos thriving globally without having to leave home. The Web3 industry is exploding, and she’s making sure Filipinos are ready to ride that wave.
“If we can bridge the digital skills gap, we can create sustainable pathways for Filipinos to thrive in the global economy without having to leave their home country and their families behind,” Dizon said. “For me, this race was more than just a physical challenge—it was a testament to the relentless pursuit of progress that empowers Filipinos to succeed on their own terms.”
