You Can Now Buy A Tesla In The Philippines

For the past few years, car brands have been expanding their offerings in the Philippines to include both hybrid and full EV vehicles. One of the brands that people look forward to is Tesla, which is one of the hottest EV brands in the world. It is only until this month that you can buy a Tesla in the Philippines via EV Solutions.

Their showroom is in EDSA, Mandaluyong and they currently offer the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in the Philippines. EV Solutions is part of Altersun Energy Resources, which is one of the leading solar power providers in the Philippines. This also explains why getting either the Model 3 or Model Y comes bundled with a 5KW Solar PV System that will be installed at your home–along with the Tesla Wall Connector needed for fast charging.

As a distributor of Tesla vehicles in the Philippines, EV Solutions provides the necessary after-sales and support, along with access to charging stations nationwide. Both the Model 3 and Model Y come with a 3-year warranty and an 8-year warranty on the battery–the latter abiding with Tesla’s official warranty for its battery and drive unit.

The catch on buying a Tesla in the Philippines is the price: The Model 3 is priced at Php 4 million and has Autopilot disabled, while the Model Y is priced at Php 4.6 million. That makes buying a Tesla via EV Solutions more expensive–for reference, the Model 3 starts at $38,990 or around Php 2.3 million, while the Model Y starts at $50,990 or around Php 3 million.

Aside from taxes and duties, one factor for the rather high asking price is the bundled Solar PV System. According to Solar Lab, a 5KW Solar PV System will cost you at least Php 250k, and that does not include other factors like additional components needed and installation. The bundle is rather unusual considering that Tesla has their own line of electric storage systems. Given EV Solutions’ affiliation with a Solar Power company, the bundle appears to be part of EV Solutions selling their own products as an “incentive” to prospective Tesla owners.

While you can buy a Tesla in the Philippines, it’s unclear if EV Solutions is an official distributor of Tesla vehicles in the Philippines or just another seller.

Even if Tesla allowed official local distributors, would they allow the distributor to also sell other competing brands like BYD?
