An unprecedented move by Microsoft
Microsoft’s Windows OS is arguably one of the most pirated pieces of software in the entire world which makes the following news even more astounding – the company has announced that the free upgrade offer to Windows 10 when it launches later this year extends to both genuine and non-genuine copies of its OS. That’s right – Microsoft will upgrade your Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 OS to Windows 10 absolutely free, even if you have a pirated copy of their OS.
This move is targeted at China, but we’d be surprised if the company didn’t consider other Asian countries like ours which have a tremendously high piracy rate when it comes to software. The unprecedented move was announced by Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the Operating Systems group during the WinHEC technology conference in Shenzhen, China.
“We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,” he said in a telephone interview with Reuters. The plan is to “re-engage” with the millions of users in China, he said, without elaboration.
