YouTube Shopping Arrives in the Philippines!

The launch of YouTube Shopping Philippines marks a significant milestone for the local creator economy and e-commerce. In partnership with Shopee, YouTube has introduced its Shopping Affiliate Program to the Philippines, making it the sixth Southeast Asian country to embrace this platform.

Seamless Shopping with YouTube Shopping

YouTube Shopping Philippines allows viewers to buy the products they may be interested in without having to leave a creator’s videos. Yup. Gone are the days of having to click the link in the description or even switching websites.

The experience has been streamlined to make things so much more convenient, catering to the growing demand for engaging, content-driven shopping. As we all know, there has been a sudden boom in live selling or video commerce in general, so much so that it now accounts for 20% of Southeast Asia’s e-commerce gross merchandise value in 2024. YouTube Shopping, through its partnership with Shopee, is positioning itself to make waves in this area.

Empowering Creators and Sellers

The YouTube Shopping program also opens opportunities for both content creators and sellers on Shopee.

Filipino creators can now monetize their influence by tagging products in videos and live streams, earning commissions while sharing recommendations with their loyal audiences. We’ve been doing this for a couple of our videos already and the experience has been incredibly easy; compared to having to jump from website to website to get codes to then link it as a pinned comment in our videos. For Shopee sellers, collaborating with creators expands their reach, driving product discovery and potentially boosting their sales.

Why YouTube Shopping Matters

The rise of YouTube Shopping Philippines taps into the trust consumers place in creators nowadays, who — according to the presentation they showed us — now drive 3.8 times greater purchase intent compared to other social platforms. A Kantar study highlights that 80% of Southeast Asian shoppers want an entertaining shopping experience, and 63% of Filipino Gen Z prefer completing purchases on e-commerce platforms like Shopee. This partnership delivers a video-first shopping journey, blending entertainment with commerce to meet evolving consumer expectations. Advertisers also benefit, as brands like L’Oréal have seen 10X more high-intent views through YouTube Shopping campaigns.

Big ups to Hardware Voyage for representing the Philippines Tech Creators at the event!

As YouTube Shopping Philippines gains momentum, it solidifies YouTube’s role as a powerhouse in video commerce. By connecting creators, sellers, and shoppers, this platform is reshaping the digital economy in the Philippines and beyond. Whether you’re a creator looking to monetize or a shopper seeking a seamless experience, YouTube Shopping is set to transform how you engage with e-commerce.
