Instagram Will Now Allow Posting Photos and Videos via Desktop

After announcing that Instagram users can post photos and videos (under 1 minute)  via the desktop client last June, the social media platform is making the feature available to all users starting October 21. This means that users can do more with Instagram’s desktop client other than viewing their own feed and messaging other users via Direct. Aside from making the much-awaited feature available to all users, Instagram also announced a new feature called Collab, which allows users to co-author Feed Posts and Reels.

While it is only now that Instagram announced that they are testing Collab, Techcrunch notes that the social media platform has been doing a small-scale global test of Collab since July.

With this feature, Collab posts will have the names of both Instagram users appear on the header, allowing the post to be shared to their respective followers. Since the post involves two accounts, the views, likes, and comments are shared between both users.

While the ability to post photos and videos via Instagram Desktop is a feature everyone has been waiting for the longest time, Collab brings in a potentially game-changing feature with how content creators utilize Instagram. Aside from Collab, Instagram is also exploring a fundraising feature as well, where users can initiate a fundraising initiative for a non-profit organization with their posts.  Prior to this, Instagram added a fundraising feature for users in the US, UK, and Ireland last year but no longer offers it as of this writing.
