Jor-El and Faora

After several months of waiting, our pre-orders for the Play Arts Kai collectible figures of Jor-El and Faora from the Man of Steel movie finally arrived at Data Blitz last weekend! Both of them join Superman and General Zod, both of whom we’ve already featured here on the site. The addition for Jor-el and Faora brings the total number of Man of Steel figures from Play Arts Kai to 4! Hopefully they end up making a Lois Lane figure just to round the cast off. 🙂

For this post we’ll take a close look at the two new figures. Let’s start with Superman’s father, Jor-el, played by Russell Crowe in the Man of Steel movie.

Jor-El

Jor-el is the greatest scientist of the doomed planet Krypton and is also the father of Superman. In the movie Man of Steel he was played by the Gladiator, este, Russell Crowe. The collectible figure we have that’s made by Play Arts Kai, the merchandising arm of Square Enix, stands 9-1/4″ tall and is made mostly from PVC material. Just like with other Play Arts Kai creations, the figure has stunning likeness and detail which makes it a real keeper for fans of the movie.

The main highlight of this figure is definitely the armor. It looks insanely intricate and it truly does justice to the on-screen armor that we saw Jor-El wear when he took on General Zod.

Fantastic job with the armor!

We can’t say the same for the paint job on the face though. It kinda looks too dirty to the point that some people might not recognize Russell Crowe anymore, hehe.

Hmmm...

The figure has multiple articulation points but we found it a bit hard to pose him, especially his arms. They’re just too tight to move sidewards and their orientation is more Up-Down than Left-Right. Forcing the arms to move sidewards will result to you tearing the entire limb off from the socket. This actually happened to us and we ended up using Mighty Bond to put it back together (ugh).

In terms of accessories, Jor-El comes with interchangeable hands, a Kryptonian Rifle, a removable cape, and a detachable back armor.

Father and son. Oh yeah.

Faora-Ul

Faora-Ul is the lieutenant of General Zod. In the movie she does most of the ass kicking for Zod’s team, including the final battle in the airplane that crashed into the World Engine. Just like the Jor-El figure, this one is made mostly from PVC, stands 9-5/8″, and has a couple of accessories.

The paint job on Faora-Ul is much cleaner and you can see her face better compared to Jor-El. The articulation though is still the same as you’re limited to up and down arm movements versus full left and right motions. The figure came with interchangeable hands, a knife (which you can slide in the holster along her waist), removable cape, and detachable back armor. Here are a couple of photos:

Both Jor-El and Faora-Ul retail for Php2995. They’re already available in different branches of Data Blitz (though I heard they’re selling fast). If you decide to get one it would be best to call the branch you’re planning on going to just so you don’t waste time, energy, and effort.

So yeah come one Square Enix! Come out with Lois already! 😛
