When size is no limit
Have you ever thought that a 77-inch OLED TV, or maybe an 88-inch one, is considered small for you? How about, say, a 146-inch TV?
Yes, that size can practically cover a wall, and Samsung just presented this at CES 2018. Touted as the “world’s first modular TV”, the idea of having a wall-sized TV is made possible with Samsung’s MicroLED tech. While it shares the same properties with OLED, MicroLED does not need a backlight for the pixels to work, which results to images that are brighter and have a better contrast.
An improvement over OLED aside, the MicroLED boasts of its modularity characteristic, which means that manufacturers like Samsung can create TVs in any resolution they want, and in any aspect ratio. While the thought of custom-sized TVs is not considered now, MicroLED paves the way towards making it possible.
Samsung plans to bring The Wall to mass production later this year, but like with any big screens out there, it is not going to be cheap.
