It’s the God of Thunder!
This is a very special feature since this happens to be the Christmas gift of my wife, haha! Gotta love it when your wife knows what you want. Anyway, this is a 1/6th scale collectible figure from Hot Toys of Thor, the God of Thunder, from The Avengers movie. It has 30 points of articulation making it very posable and as expected the quality of the materials used for his armor and accessories are simply topnotch.
To help jog your memory a bit how awesome Thor was in the movie, watch the short one minute clip below of him kicking alien ass all over New York!
Okay, now that we have that out of the way lets get into the feature!
Unboxing and Packaging
The figure came in the usual Hot Toys carton box. Having bought toys both from Enterbay and Hot Toys, we’ve got to say we kinda prefer the packaging of Enterbay more. They come off as more premium and “limited”. The box used for The Avengers line (with the exception of the one for Hulk) all look the same and definitely felt like it was a ridiculously mass produced product. If you want a better idea of what we’re talking about, read our feature on the Ip Man 1/6th Scale Figure from Enterbay.
Unboxing was very straightforward. We removed the slip-on cover which featured a black and white photo of Thor as portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. The “Avengers” logo is also proudly embossed on the front so you can also differentiate it from the other Thor figures (his previous movie and the new one). The actual box itself is color red with a transparent plastic up front. We removed the tape at the top and pulled out the inner compartment to finally unleash the God of Thunder into our… er… living room. Hehe.
We’ll get to the actual figure in a bit. Other than Thor the box also had a couple of extras and accessories. This included seven pieces of interchangeable palms. There’s one pair of fists, one pair of relaxed open palms, one pair for holding Mjolnir, and one left palm for holding the Tesseract container. Obviously the other accessories are the Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) and the Tesseract container.
Here are close up shots of Mjolnir and the Tesseract Container.
Not bad right? It’s awesome how Hot Toys is able to nail the detail even with the smallest of accessories.
As Usual, Amazing Likeness and Superb Quality
Now let’s move on to the actual figure itself! Measuring around 32 cm tall, this Thor figure was molded to look like Chris Hemsworth in the movie. And boy did Hot Toys do it spectacularly well! If you look closely at the head sculpt you’ll notice the finer details like wrinkles, skin texture, and the bear. They really paid attention to everything!
The armor is also a great reproduction of Thor’s final battle gear in the last fight scene in New York. The red cape is actually made of cloth and we have the dark blue-colored garment with red stripes and silver-colored patterned long sleeves (which is supposed to be Chain Mail). The torso armor has the silver plates and the pants kinda feel like leather in dark blue with red stripes. The dark blue and silver boots also look fantastic!
Thanks to the 30 points of articulation, it’s easy to pose Thor. You can have him attacking with the hammer or poised defensively. You can change the different hand pegs as well so you can have him carry the Tesseract container. Our only gripe with the customizability is that there’s only one head sculpt with one facial expression. Would have been better if they put in one face of him roaring or something, hehe.
Here are a few more photos of the figure for your perusal:
And that wraps up our feature and review of Thor. He’s definitely a great addition to the collection and it looks like we’re going to have to complete everyone from The Avengers, haha! By the way, we also have the Hulk so expect a feature on his figure very soon.
