Your Selfie Can Now Unlock Your Union Bank Account

Here’s an interesting use of your selfie – Union Bank’s e-banking platform, EON, has announced that customers are now able to unlock their mobile accounts via the mobile app by simply using their selfies.

According to them, EON uses a state-of-the-art facial recognition technology used by the US and other countries in screening immigrants and foreign visitors stepping on their soil. They claim that the biometric authentication process via facial recognition is superior to regular passwords which can be hacked, forgotten or spoofed – things that won’t affect facial recognition tech.

With the app, your face is literally your password, so no one else but you should be able to access your bank account. At least, that’s the theory.

You can read the whole release of EON below:

We have perfected the art of the selfie.  As the Selfie Capital of the World, taking selfies comes naturally to us Filipinos – we pose endlessly in front of our smartphones to express ourselves, commemorate an occasion, boast of an achievement, or simply show the world what we are up to (even just waking up in the morning).

But did you know that you can now bank online by just snapping a selfie?  Today, the all-new EON, powered by UnionBank, has taken selfies to a whole new level.  EON customers have asked for it, and now, selfie banking is here.

Selfie banking, introduced by EON in the country, lets you log in to your account by doing what you’ve always loved to do – posing in front of a smartphone.  Launch the EON app, take a selfie, and you’re in.

EON uses state-of-the-art face recognition technology.  It is the same world class technology used by the US and other countries in securing borders, immigration, and critical infrastructure.  By adding face recognition, EON attains the gold standard in security, a multi-factor – something you know, something you have, and something you are – authentication process to protect customers from the escalating threats to cybersecurity.

In addition, passwords are easily compromised.  To respond to hacks, banks require customers to use more complex and cumbersome passwords – longer, changing more frequently, and therefore, more likely to be forgotten.  EON spares you from all the hassle because with EON, your face is your password.

Selfie banking is just one of the many innovations of the new EON.  To find out more, visit www.eonbankph.com, Facebook /eonbankph, or Twitter @eonbankph.
