With the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 turning two years old, Qualcomm announced its successor with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. While it’s still based on a 4nm process, the new Snapdragon 7 series chip offers a significant performance upgrade with a Prime Core running at 2.8Ghz, four performance cores running at 2.4Ghz, and three efficiency cores running at 1.8Ghz.
Qualcomm claims a 27% boost in CPU performance, while the updated Adreno GPU gets a 30% boost. Select Snapdragon Elite features like Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0 is supported, along with support for HDR10, HDR10+, HDR Vivid and HLG codecs. As for the Hexagon NPU, Qualcomm promises a 65% boost in AI tasks, along with the ability to run Stable Diffusion 1.5 locally.
While it also supports LPDDR5 RAM, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 now supports UFS 4.0 storage.Its 12-bit triple Spectra ISP supports up to 200-megapixel images and 10-bit photos, while video recording is still the same at 4K30. You also get support for sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, along with aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive and Qualcomm’s Expanded Personal Area Network (XPAN). The latter means that you get support WiFi TWS earbuds like the more expensive Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Honor, vivo and realme are expected to announce midrange phones with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 phones in the coming months.
