Davao City to Implement Integrated Bus System, Phase Out Jeepneys

Feasibility studies are ongoing

While there are discussions and debates about the jeepney modernization program in Metro Manila, Davao City is going for another route: they intend to phase out jeepneys and replace it with the Davao Integrated Bus System.

In a report by The Philippine Star, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio rejected the jeepney modernization program, citing that it is unfair for jeepney drivers to comply with the program and sell their jeepneys for scrap six months later.

As compensation, the city government is working on livelihood assistance to more than 400 jeepney operators that will be affected by the Integrated Bus System.

The Davao Integrated Bus System will initially cover those plying the Catalunan Grande-Roxas Avenue and C.P. Garcia Highway-Sasa routes. Feasibility studies are ongoing as of press writing.
