MPTC Chief Officer Romulo Quimbo has announced over the weekend that the fee increase will officially begin at 12:01 am on Tuesday. As per usual, the increase will depend on vehicle type.

Class 1 vehicles or ordinary cars, using the open system or areas charged with a flat rate per entry, will have to pay an additional P2.00 more; Class 2 vehicles such as buses and small trucks will have to pay an additional P3.00 more; Class 3 vehicles or large trucks will have to pay an additional P4.00 more than usual.

Areas covered in the open system are Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon City, Navotas City, Meycauayan City, and Marilao, Bulacan. The closed system is between Bocaue, Bulacan and Mabalacat City, Pampanga.

For easier translation, traveling end-to-end on the NLEX, from Balintawak or Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City to Santa Ines, Mabalacat City, will cost Class 1 vehicles P6.00 more than usual, Class 2 vehicles P14.00 more than usual, and Class 3 vehicles P16.00 more than usual.

Ito pong total increase natin ay between 2 to 3 percent po ito sa toll fee natin,” Quimbo stated in an interview.

NLEX Corporation has stated in a press conference that this increase is part of the approved periodic adjustments due in 2012 and 2014. The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and NLEX Corp. have agreed to implement increases on a staggered basis to cushion the impact this may have on motorists.

The NLEX toll fee increase would help with the funding of the ongoing projects of the NLEX and MPTC, such as the rehabilitation of the Candaba Viaduct, the road expansion projects in NLEX and SCTEX, and the NLEX Connector Road.
