If you’ve been waiting for Honda to release a hatchback variant of their aggressive-looking new Civic, your wait is over, at least if you live in the US. Honda has officially released images and specs for the long awaited version, and it looks pretty damn good. The car sports the same edgy, futuristic front of the coupe and the sedan but now gotten a hatch rear as well as hook shaped tail-lights and an integrated rear spoiler – it’s essentially what we imagined a Honda Civic would look like in 2016.

Honda’s rolling out the car in the US first, offering it in LX, Sport, EX, EX-L and Sport Touring trims. All variants get Honda’s 1.5-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine – the same one powering the Civics already on the roads today. The car will be available in both six-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission. The LX, EX and EX-L trims put out around 174hp and 220Nm of torque – the Sport and Sport Touring variants has a little more oomph, putting out 180hp.

What’s nice about the new Civic Hatchback is that it’ll form the basis for the next Civic Type-R, which should make boy racers incredibly happy once it drops.
