As an effort to promote sustainable public transportation, the first self-driving bus in the Philippines, has recently been unveiled at New Clark City, Clark Freeport Zone, and Clark International Airport.
The project is spearheaded by Zenmov and MC Metro Transport Operation, which will be available to ride for free until June 2025. These self-driving bus that was unveiled in the Philippines is powered by Japanese technology. BCDA, Zenmov, and MC Metro signed a memorandum of agreement in October 2023, with NEDO, to fund a self-driving vehicle mobility demonstration program until June 2021.
“We can definitely learn a lot from Japan’s advanced and innovative transport system. Integrating their smart autonomous vehicle technology will provide a more sustainable and scalable transport solution here in Clark. This initiative will significantly improve daily commutes for those living and working in Clark, reduce traffic congestion, and promote a greener, low-carbon environment,” Gisela Kalalo, BCDA Executive Vice President and COO said in a statement.
BCDA intends to deploy Smart Mobility Operation Cloud to operate Primary Rapid Transit as a “last mile” option in New Clark City, Clark Freeport Zone, and Clark International Airport, to make the city more sustainable, smart, and environmentally friendly.
Prior to this, the Ayala was preparing to invest $100 million in self-driving vehicles back in 2016.
