Tesla Announces 2nd Generation Roadster

Tesla Announces 2nd Generation Roadster

AKA the fastest production car ever built

Tesla, that company that’s responsible for making intelligent home battery packs and state-of-the-art electric vehicles, has announced the fastest production car ever built. The second generation Tesla Roadster is the fastest electric vehicle ever built, and is, according to CEO Elon Musk, the fastest production car ever made by any company, period.

The new vehicle boasts impressive numbers: a 200kWh battery pack gives it a 620-mile range (almost 1000 kilometers) with a single charge, can do zero to 60 MPH in 1.9 seconds, goes through a quarter mile in just 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of over 250 MPH or over 400 KMH.

That’s quite a claim, considering that the fastest production car currently is the Agera RS, made by Sweden’s Koenigsegg, which currently holds the world’s top speed record at 277.9 MPH.

Elon Musk is positioning the next generation roadster as the future of performance cars, and says that “the point of doing this is to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars,” during the Roadster’s unveil a few days ago.

To do that, Tesla has put in three motors in the new vehicle (one in front, two at the rear) along with all wheel drive and torque steering. It’s every bit as high-tech as the company’s other cars, though if you’re Mr. Moneybags and are waiting to get your hands on one, you’ll have to wait. Musk has said that production of the new vehicle won’t start until 2020, and prices for one will start at $200,000 or Php 10 million. There’s an even faster version of the Roadster that’s pegged at Php 12.7 million as well if you’re feeling extra fancy.
